A honeymooner going coconuts in St. Lucia

The summer 2014 #HOT issue of Snap Magazine is live and available for free in iTunes here. It’s filled with stunning images, recipes (chorizo breakfast tacos, anyone?), a hot summer playlist and my HipStop: St. Lucia piece.

I love shooting assignments for Snap. The hard part is picking which images to send in the final edit. In this post I’ve included a few of my favorite images that did not wind up in Snap.

I met this fruit and vegetable vendor at the market in Soufriere.

All the images in Snap are shot using the apps created by Hipstamatic. I shot all of my St. Lucia images for Snap using Hipstamatic’s Oggl app, which allows you to changes the film and lens after you’ve captured the image.

Great Bars of Rome: Stravinskij Bar at Hotel De Russie

Shutters on windows at Hotel de Russie

Shutters on windows at Hotel de Russie

Before my recent trip to Rome, my Italian friend Gina told me to check out the bar at the Hotel de Russie . “I love the whole scene there.” Gina has great taste in general and since she’s Italian, has Roman cred.

Hotel de Russie has an amazing terraced gardens and the bar technically isn’t on a rooftop, yet still is special enough to deserve a mention. Unlike the classic Hotel Eden, Hotel de Russie is a Rocco Forte Hotel and has a fresh and modern vibe. The crowd is chic and the hallways are lined with good art- paintings, photographs, statues and bouquets of fresh flowers.

Great Rooftop Bars of Rome (Part 1): FortySeven Hotel and Hotel Locarno

 Amazing view from 47hotel

Amazing view of the Basilica of Saint Mary in Cosmedin from the roof of 47hotel. The church is famous for it’s La Bocca della Verità, or Mouth of Truth, one of the famous locations in the film Roman Holiday

Rome is one of my favorite cities to visit. I’ve found that I enjoy it most when I go tour the sites during my winter visits, when there are fewer tourists. During my summer visits, I like to focus on Rome’s fantastic food and wine. It’s a stunning city, and in the hot summer months, there is nothing I like more than to view it from a great rooftop bar, especially when I’m with friends or fellow travelers.

The 47 Hotel I just discovered on this most recent trip. It’s a boutique hotel with just 47 rooms and suites and has a lovely rooftop bar that overlooks the Temple of Vesta and other ancient sites. It was fun to meet up at the hotel’s rooftop terrace with my friends who were staying at the property, sip Prosecco, and look down at groups of tourists on Segway rides of Rome below. I’ve already seen the Mouth of Truth up close on a previous trip (and in the Audrey Hepburn classic Roman Holiday), so I enjoyed looking at it from a different angle this time.
