Exploring California: The New Tesla Supercharger in Kettleman City

The exterior of the new Tesla Supercharger in Kettleman City

With the holidays upon us, more people will be hitting the road. For Tesla owners, this can mean long wait times at Supercharger stations. For those traveling on the I-5 between Los Angeles and San Francisco, there is good news. A 40 stall Supercharger station just opened in Kettleman City.

Panorama of the Kettleman City Tesla Supercharger

I visited the spanking new supercharger on Saturday and was wildly impressed. It looks like something straight out of the Jetsons. In addition to the well designed and shaded layout and of the solar charging stalls, the Kettleman City Supercharger offers amenities for Tesla owners. There are bathrooms and a guest lounge where you can order a craft beverage from a Tesla barista while enjoying free wifi. There is even Tesla merchandise for sale.

Kettleman City Supercharger Entrance

The Kettleman City supercharger should help relieve the burden at the Bakersfield and Harris Ranch Superchargers during heavy traffic times, as well as when the Tesla Model 3s start to add additional traffic.  Access to the facilities is gained by an access code sent directly to guest’s Tesla touchscreen.

There are quite a few dining options near the Kettleman City supercharger, including California favorites In-N-Out Burger, Bravo Farms and Baja Fresh.

Another 40 stall Tesla Supercharger is set to open this week in Baker, for those driving between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

My Tesla did not list the Kettleman City supercharger as an option last Thursday (a day after it opened) so be sure to ask your Tesla navigation system for specific directions.

Honored My Images Win 2nd Place in Mobile Photo Awards/ARTHAUS Photo Essay Category

I spent two mornings in December getting up before sunrise to watch the goings on at Myanmar’s Shwedagon Pagoda

Yesterday the Mobile Photo Awards announced the results of their ArtHaus Photo Essay Category. I was incredibly thrilled and humbled to learn my Scenes from Sunrise at Shwedagon Pagoda Images won second place [technically, my essay won 1st runner up].

The images of 1st place winner Melissa Vincent (whose work I’ve gotten to know from the TIME Wireless Identification Project as well as the Grryo (formerly known as We Are Juxt) community) are so gorgeous, I can’t believe that my work will be hanging along side her The Rooms of William Faulkner series  and the Lost Toy Room of the incredibly talented Benamon Tame during a month long exhibit at San Francisco’s ArtHaus Gallery beginning April 5th from 6-8pm.

You can check out a slideshow of the ArtHaus Photo Essay Winners and honorable mentions here. I’d like to thank ArtHaus gallerists James Bacchi and Annette Schutz as well as Dan Berman of the Mobile Photo Awards for including my work in the show. I’m quite frankly blown away.

Macworld 2013

I shot this image of mobile photographer Dan Berman (founder of the Mobile Photography Awards) shooting my fellow EyeEm Ambassadors  Star Rush and Misho Baranovic using the high ISO feature on the Hueless app.

Yesterday I arrived in San Francisco to attend MacWorld 2013‘s Mobile Masters Workshop. Last night I hung out with a bunch of fellow mobile photographers and wound up talking shop and downloading a few new apps: Thirty Six, and Hueless, which was particularly useful for shooting in low light.

Today I’ll be attending the Mobile Masters Workshop, and if the wifi at Moscone Center allows, doing some live tweeting from the event. You can follow me on twitter here. We’ve created an album for the event on EyeEm called Macworld 2013 if you want to follow our images from the event.

FriFotos: Suites and Sweets in Singapore

A glass of just sweet enough bubbly Perrier Jouet with my friend & #FriFotos host,Charles Yap

I just got back from a trip to Asia and on my way there, I got a chance to fly  in one of Singapore Airlines First Class Suites from San Francisco (SFO) to Seoul (ICN) to Singapore (SIN). While I’ve got a ton of photo editing to do (look for  more in-depth posts about my trip in the future),  in honor of #FriFotos “Sweets” them this week,  here  are a few photographic highlights of the sweetest things in Singapore.

If you’d like to take part in the #Frifotos photo chat on twitter you can find the details here.

Chocolate Donuts on the amazing Fullerton Bay Hotel‘s Breakfast buffet

Fruit Juice selection at the  Fullerton Bay breakfast buffet. They also had strawberry milk. Sweet and delicious

Bubbly and a Singapore Sling at the Club Intercontinental Lounge. Singapore Slings photography nicely but are too sweet for my taste.

Dom Perignon and Krug both served in-flight in the sweet Singapore Suites

The Suite Life:  Singapore Airlines First Class

Check out the EVA Air Hello Kitty Plane I saw at the Incheon International Airport in Korea. That is one sweet plane!
