Before my recent trip to Rome, my Italian friend Gina told me to check out the bar at the Hotel de Russie . “I love the whole scene there.” Gina has great taste in general and since she’s Italian, has Roman cred.
Hotel de Russie has an amazing terraced gardens and the bar technically isn’t on a rooftop, yet still is special enough to deserve a mention. Unlike the classic Hotel Eden, Hotel de Russie is a Rocco Forte Hotel and has a fresh and modern vibe. The crowd is chic and the hallways are lined with good art- paintings, photographs, statues and bouquets of fresh flowers.

But it is the lovely “secret garden” and the interior courtyard and the terraced gardens of Le Jardin de Russie that makes it exceptional. Adjacent to the courtyard, the Stravinskij Bar had a great rep for both their alcoholic cocktail and their healthy non-alcoholic beverages. The barkeeps at the Stravinskij regularly win awards and their lunch menu is delicious and perfect in the summer sunshine. I had a lovely lemon iced tea that was served beautifully with a paper lantern garnish. It’s a lovely spot for lunch on a hot day in Rome. The pasta pomodoro was suitably delicious, with the basil being extra tasty and worked well in the garden setting.
Budget Luxury Travel Tip: If you can’t afford to stay at Hotel de Russie, come for lunch or a drink and check out the amazing atmosphere for yourself.

Hotel de Russie has a great location near the Piazza de Popolo, the so-called “people’s square.” Here’s a fun Fun tidbit of Piazza de Popolo history: is the spot where public executions took place until 1826.
