My review (and photos) of Dunton Hot Springs is up on the Glamping.com blog. You can check it out here.

I wanted to share a few more of my favorite images of this magical resort with my blog readers, because this resort was truly unique and it utterly charmed me. I really want to go back during the winter and stay in one of the cabins.

With Cresto Ranch tented camp a mere four miles away from the Dunton Hot Springs property, the two resorts are an ideal pairing. I really enjoyed glamping and feeling completely immersed in the Colorado mountains sleeping under canvas at Cresto Ranch during the summer, but I think once winter rolls around, I’d love to spend a few days in one of Dunton’s one of a kind cabins.

I hope you enjoy this video I shot while visiting the two resorts.

A Girls Trip to the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells, California

The view from the Penthouse at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells

I just spent a few days in the California desert with a group of girlfriends. It was hot (there is a reason that Coachella is held in April and not in August) but we had a  lot of fun.

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort and Spa. The resort has an award-winning spa and the workout facilities are open 24 hours a day, which is a feature I really like in a hotel (and took advantage of). The gym is great.

My friend, Erina Pindar, is the managing director of Smartflyer New York.  I met her on twitter and we’ve become real life friends. She’s one of the smart and fabulous women behind the Smartflyer blog, which is a great resource for luxury travelers. I know some of her colleagues through social media relationships, so it was a lot of fun getting to spend some face time with them in real life.

If you’re looking for a luxury travel agency to work with, then check out Smartflyer.

The highlight of the stay was having dinner at the Chef’s table with the hotel’s executive chef, Chris Mitchum . The resort focuses on locally sourced produce, and Chef Mitchum likes his dishes to be “recognizable” yet elevated.

It was really fun to get to see all the inner workings of the kitchen (including the bakery) while enjoying dinner (and wine).

For our main course: Moroccan chicken and shrimp served on couscous

Much thanks to Hyatt for treating us to this great dinner!

A Peek at the New Cresto Ranch Tented Camp

One of the safari-style tents at Cresto Ranch

I recently got to visit Cresto Ranch on assignment for Glamping.com to check out the new safari-style tented camp that opened this summer. You can read my review of Cresto Ranch for Glamping.com blog here.

For my blog readers I wanted to share some additional images of the Cresto Ranch tents.

Some of the lovely scenery around Cresto Ranch

Cresto Ranch is located in Colorado’s scenic San Juan mountains. Telluride has the closest airport (although I flew into Durango & drove… it’s a pretty drive).

There are eight tents on the Cresto Ranch property. While I had zero bars on my mobile phone, Cresto Ranch’s tents all come with wifi and an en-suite bathroom. I’m at an age where I appreciate good bedding and and the bed (and bedding) was comfy (and toasty warm).

The tents themselves are very comfortable, and have a nice outdoor deck with lounge chairs and a table.

The bathrooms at Cresto Ranch are impressive. Flash heaters provide plenty of water so you’re not deprived of bathing facilities.

Having modern comforts doesn’t detract from the experience. You’re still immersed in the Colorado wilderness and it still feels like camping when you wake up on a chilly mountain morning. It totally doesn’t suck to be able to warm up by flicking on your gas stove with the flick of a switch.

Fly Fishing at Colorado’s Cresto Ranch

Getting your feet wet is half the fun of fly fishing

Getting your feet wet is half the fun of fly fishing

During my recent stay at Cresto Ranch at Dunton Hot Springs, I spent a lot of time relaxing and enjoying the beautiful Colorado surroundings. In addition to the stunning views of the San Juan mountains, the west fork of the Dolores River runs right through the property.

Fly fishing in the Dolores River GIF

Fellow Cresto Ranch guest, Valerie, let me photograph her fly fishing. She had good luck and caught & released quite a few fish, although none were biting when I had my camera around. There is over a mile of private stream access on the Cresto property and while th west fork of the Dolores isn’t large, it is easily accessible by foot and gifted with a large population of trout.

Valerie and I discussed the meditative qualities of fly fishing– how it feels good to get your feet wet and the sound of the river sort of lulls you into a relaxed state. It’s a nice way to get to interact with the beautiful surroundings, even if you don’t get a nibble.

Fly Fishing is just one of the activities available to guests staying at Cresto Ranch and Dunton Hot Springs. Private half-day and full-day fly fishing lessons are available. Since there is more than one and a half miles of private fishing water on the Cresto property and your guide can show you which spots are best for a variety of different fly fishing situations (and which lures are most alluring).

Cutthroat, rainbow, brook and brown trout all are present in these waters, with 16″-20″ trout are common on this part of the river– that is why the tents along the river are named after them (I stayed in Rainbow tent).

Hummingbirds at Cresto Ranch

Hummingbird feeder at the Cresto Ranch Farm House

Hummingbird feeder at the Cresto Ranch Farm House

I’m not much of a bird watcher but on my recent glamping trip to Cresto Ranch at Dunton Hot Springs in Colorado, I became totally fascinated with hummingbirds. There were a bunch of them on the property.

The Farmhouse at Cresto Ranch was originally built in the late 1800’s

At Cresto Ranch, you eat your meals in a old farmhouse which was built in the late 1800s. There are several hummingbird feeders hanging from the eaves of the farmhouse’s wraparound porch.

Watching the action at the hummingbird feeder became a daily routine. Along with the other guests, we noticed that hummingbirds aren’t above bullying and can be rather vicious when food is involved. They may be tiny and pretty, but hummingbirds have no problem going all Mean Girls and having a smackdown at the bird feeder.

San Juan Mountains + hummingbirds = gorgeousSan Juan Mountains + hummingbirds = gorgeous

I found myself both mesmerized by the daily activity at the hummingbird feeder, and missing it once I left. So I decided to put together some of my favorite images and media to share it with my blog readers.
